The most common complaint about AI assistants is that they sound like a textbook: correct, polite and completely unusable. The reason is not that the model is weak. It is that you asked it to write about your company without showing it anything from your company, so the only material it has is the average of everything it has ever read.
The difference between a good prompt and context
A good prompt improves the shape of the answer: its length, its tone, its structure. Context changes the substance. You can rewrite the same request ten times and still get brochure copy, if the model has no way of knowing what you sell, at what price, and to whom.
Without context
Answers from the average
- A generic pitch that would fit any company
- Quotes with invented prices and textbook structure
- Advice that is correct and fits nobody
With context
Answers from your company
- Your pitch, in the words you already use
- Quotes on your real structure and your real prices
- Recommendations tied to the clients you actually have
The three documents that make the biggest difference
- The company pitch: what you do, for whom, and what you do not do. Something you would send a new client.
- Two or three real quotes you have actually sent, with the structure and prices you use.
- A list of clients or client types, with what each of them bought from you.
None of these has to be written from scratch. All three already exist, in email, on a drive, or in someone's head where ten minutes of dictation will get them out. What matters is that they land somewhere the assistant reads every time, rather than being pasted into a single chat that disappears tomorrow.
You do not need a better model. You need the model you have to know who it is talking to.
Terms used here
- Context
- The information in front of the model as it answers. It is not memory: if it is not in the conversation or the project, it does not exist.
- Project
- A workspace where you upload files and instructions once, and every conversation inside it starts with them.
- Prompt
- The request itself. It controls the shape of the answer, not the information behind it.
Where to start
- 1Make one folder and put the company pitch, two sent quotes and the client list in it.
- 2Create a project in whichever assistant you use and upload the folder into it.
- 3Ask it the same thing you asked once before, and compare the two answers.
